2026 US GP: Martin takes stunning sprint win as Pole-sitter Di Giannantonio crashes with Marquez

Jorge Martin won the sprint race in Texas, his first sprint win since Malaysia 2024, after some big names crashed out.

The first big names out happened on lap 1, with Marc Marquez trying to fight back after being overtaken by pole-sitter Di Giannantonio, crashing into the VR46 rider at turn 12 as Marquez struggled to get his Ducati stopped.

Next ones to crash would be Marco Bezzecchi at Turn 11 from 2nd place whilst catching up to race leader Bagnaia, the Italian squirming on corner entry before going down. The crash was the second time this season that Bezzecchi has crashed in the 3 sprints this year, the other coming in Thailand.

This left Jorge Martin, the only rider fitted with a Medium rear tyre, to attack Bagnaia with better tyres at the end of the race. The 89 dived up the inside at Turn 11 and took the lead on the last lap, almost ending up in the same situation as Marquez on lap 1, and came home to take his first sprint win since Malaysia 2024.

Francesco Bagnaia held onto second but the battle for third changed multiple times. First Joan Mir crashed on the final lap chasing the KTM of Pedro Acosta. But despite crossing the line in third, Acosta would receive a tyre pressure penalty, dropping him to 8th place and meaning Enea Bastianini took a first sprint medal of the season.

Despite Mir and Bezzecchi’s crashes, both Honda and Aprilia scored other points, with Marini 5th and Zarco 9th for Honda, and the 2 Trackhouses of Ogura and Fernandez 6th and 7th
