Alex Marquez headed a Ducati/Aprilia Top 9 in practice at Jerez, as last year’s winner laid down an early marker, the only rider in the 1:35 bracket.
It would be a day of perfect conditions for the Spanish track, much different from the heat of last year’s event, leading to fast lap time out of the blocks.
However, it would start bad for Bagnaia, the 2 time world champion crashing out on his first attempt, before recovering to 6th.
A shaken up order would be present in the first half of the session, before the top runners came to the fore during the time attacks late on, such as Bezzecchi, Marquez and Di Giannantonio.
The only man out of the 2 manufacturers to miss out on Q2 would be Franco Morbidelli, with Ogura and Fernandez comfortably through for Aprilia, with Martin also sneaking through, as well as Aldeguer also getting through for Ducati.
Enea Bastianini would finish 10th fastest and get the last Q2 spot for Tech 3 with big names such as Mir 11th, Acosta 15th and Quartararo 17th.
